2003 SECOND KAO INTERNATIONAL RULES AND REGULATIONS STATEMENT OF OBJECTIVE: Kinetic Art is always the forgotten orphan in today's cultural environment. It is high time to expose this wonderful part of sculptural art to more people in more places. By uniting kinetic sculptors around the world via the Internet on our KAO website: www.kinetic-art.org , we hope to raise the awareness and interest in our enjoyable art form. We at KINETIC-ART.ORG (KAO) are pleased to sponsor and announce the Second International Kinetic Art Competition, which is free for KAO members: 2003 KAO PRIZE CATEGORIES: Category 1: Public Art: This category is only for large in - and outdoor Kinetic Sculptures or Kinetic Art other than water related, that is designed for display in public places, office and government buildings, parks, etc. The judging criteria will be:
Category 2: Engineering Ingenuity This category is for any size of in - and outdoor Kinetic Sculptures or Kinetic Art other than water related, that is highly engineered and mechanical. The judging criteria will be:
Category 3: Funktionetic This category is for any size of in, - and outdoor Kinetic Sculptures or Kinetic Art other than water related, that is both functional and esthetic. The judging criteria will be
Category 4: Water Sculptures This category is only for any size of in, or outdoor water related Kinetic Sculptures or Kinetic Art. The judging criteria will be:
Category 5: Other and Open This category is for any size of in - and outdoor Kinetic Sculptures or Kinetic Art which does not clearly fit into any of the above 4 categories. The judging criteria will be the overall appeal of the sculpture to the judges. 2003 KAO INTERNATIONAL PRIZES: PRIZES FOR THE ENTIRE COMPETITION: FIRST-$500, SECOND-$250,THIRD-$100 as well as Honorary Mentions for the best works in each Category. We are hoping to raise sufficient sponsorship funds to invite the First Prize Winner to the official opening and prize ceremony at the 2003 Dutch Biennale on June 21st, 2003 - so any support is greatly appreciated! Each prize winner's work will be displayed on our website and winners may display the 2003 KAO Prize Winner Logo on their website, marketing materials, etc. GENERAL RULES & ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: Each contestant may enter up to three (3) sculptures for consideration, but only one per category. Sculptures that have already been submitted to the First KAO 2002 Competition are NOT eligible. Please submit KINETIC only art, which KAO defines as art that is moving or has moving components. Each contestant must be a member of KAO (KAO membership and this competition are free, so sign up at http://www.kinetic-art.org/page07.htm) BEFORE entering this competition. The KAO Member submitting a movie or photos hereby agrees that submission of an entry to this KAO 2003 Competition constitutes his or her express agreement to a) abide by decision of the judges and all rules and regulations of the Kinetic-Art.Org (KAO) regarding this 2003 Competition . b) to hereby provide irrevocable permission and license to KAO, to use, alter or reproduce any submitted materials for publicity on the KAO website, or in their marketing materials, on TV, in exhibitions, books or any other Art publishing or broadcasting venue deemed appropriate by the KAO where they can be licensed or sold to defray production costs. c) the fact that materials submitted will not be returned, but become property of KAO where they will be filed in the KAO Kinetic Art Registry archives. d) hereby warrant that they are the sole owner of all copyrights pertaining to their submission (or include a release from the copyright owners). e) hold harmless and indemnify the KAO, its board or staff from any copyright or other lawsuits or liabilities pertaining to their submission. DATES: Deadline: Complete submissions will be accepted until 5PM EST, Friday, April 25th, 2003. Final Judging: Results will be announced in June at the 2003 Dutch Biennale and on the KAO website. Winners will receive an e-mail notification as well as their check in the mail. All decisions are final. INTERNATIONAL JUDGES: Bernward Frank - Germany (www.KineticArt.de as well as our Kinetic Art Partner Website www.kineticus.com ), Ralf Gschwend - Switzerland (www.ralfonso.com), Rein Triefeldt - USA (www.triefeldt.com), Hanns-Martin Wagner, Switzerland, creator of our other Kinetic Art Partner Website www.kugelbahn.ch, as well as Cor Wetting, Holland, President of Sprezzatura, organizer of the 2003 Art in Motion Biennale in Holland ( www.sprezzatura.org ). SUBMISSION PROCEDURE: You can send Photos and/or Movies: ACCEPTABLE MOVIE FORMATS: Quicktime, AVI and MPEG only, ideally in as high a resolution as you can, up to 640*480, 30 fps, on CD or DVD only! Do NOT e-mail movies. ACCEPTABLE PHOTO FORMATS: BMP, TIFF and JPEG, ideally 640*480 pixels in size. Integrate your photos into the Submission Form below. LABEL YOUR PHOTO AND MOVIE FILE NAMES WITH YOUR LAST NAME-SCULPTURENAME-#, for example: SMITH-KINETICDREAM-1.TIFF. ACCEPTABLE COMPRESSION FORMATS: You can use ZIP or StuffIt compression to send it. ACCEPTABLE MEDIA FORMATS: You can submit via E-MAIL up to 1MB attachments. Anything larger will have to be sent by MAIL on CD, DVD. Our server will delete any e-mails exceeding 1MB, so you are better off, sending it by postal mail!
PLEASE NOTE: All submitted material will be archived in the KAO Kinetic Art Registry Archive and thus not returned to you. This KAO Kinetic Art Registry Archive is a non-juried bank that contains a growing number of the work of kinetic artists in our databank (over 300!). The KOA registry is an important resource for the selection of artist finalists in Arts Inclusion programs all over the world. In addition, museums, art galleries, art consultants and others interested in surveying the works of kinetic artists for potential exhibitions, purchases and commissions also refer to the KAO registry.
